Sandy noticed that by the time her mother reached sixty, all the so-called experts in department stores, boutiques and makeup counters told her she needed to soften her colors and start wearing pastels.Sandy nearly gasped when she came home for a visit at Christmas and saw her mother looking pale, tired and washed out. Alice, Sandy's mother, started wearing navy blue, fuchsia and royal blue again, and the compliments started pouring in. "Alice, you look like your old self," everyone said. Sandy got her to add a little brighter lipstick color, and she got even more compliments. Sometimes it is hard to be objective about yourself. And very often we simply choose colors and styles from habit. Sometimes you need an outsider to stand back and give you an honest appraisal.
